Rotat the Rat is a game programming excericise that I’m working on in my spare time. Originally intended to aide in my transition to fully object orientated programming, it has quickly become a pet project and is seeing extended development criteria.
The game is a blend of 2D platformer and pinball mechanics with realtime physics – delivering an experience that shound be a smoothe blend of mario meets sonic meets super monkey ball.
I started the project last December in Actionscript 2, but abandoned all of the code in favour of Actionscript 3. The Actionscript 3 version has been in build for one month and is a fair distance from alpha.
My hopes are to launch the project online and as seperate downloads for Linux, Mac and Windows complete with a level and campaign editor and online account services.
If its online run is successful, the project aims to eventually become downloadable content for various videogame consoles.
The latest project I’ve worked on at Cru Digital is the Katarzyna Group website.
The project launched today and is a great example of Actionscript 3 and AJAX working together to achieve the best of both worlds.
The design is attributed to Andrew Suggit at The Room, the PHP development to Cru’s Steven Miles.
